Overcoming barriers, understanding needs better

Psychological distress can manifest in many different ways – for example, in the form of anxiety, depression, traumatic experiences, or chronic pain. Growing older with a disability and stressful interpersonal experiences can also lead to situations where professional support is beneficial.

But how do you find psychotherapy that fits your own life situation and takes disability appropriately into account? What barriers can arise on the way to treatment? And what is needed so that psychotherapy can be designed to be disability-sensitive?

The focus group invites you to an open exchange. Experiences from the Thalidomide consultation service at the Department of Psychosomatics at Cologne University Hospital will be included, as well as the personal experiences of participants with psychotherapy and potential barriers to access.

Together, we will explore the question of what can facilitate access to suitable psychotherapeutic support and contribute to disability-sensitive treatment.
