Marie Kehoe\u2011O\u2019Sullivan has been the National Point of Contact for indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adals affected by Thalido\u00admide within the Irish Health Service (Health Service Exec\u00adu\u00adtive, HSE) since Novem\u00adber 2021. In this role, she works closely with people born with thalidomide-related damage who live in Ireland. Her objec\u00adtive is to improve access to medical care and social support services and to tailor these to the indi\u00advid\u00adual needs of those affected. <\/p>\n
At the begin\u00adning of her tenure, she conducted personal inter\u00adviews with those affected to under\u00adstand their expe\u00adri\u00adences, wishes, and support needs. Together with them, she devel\u00adoped a concept for access\u00ading medical care and social support services. This led to the estab\u00adlish\u00adment of the National Thalido\u00admide Advo\u00adcacy Office, a national advi\u00adsory and advo\u00adcacy office with four staff members, funded by dedi\u00adcated resources from the Irish government. <\/p>\n
Marie Kehoe\u2011O\u2019Sullivan has many years of inter\u00adna\u00adtional expe\u00adri\u00adence in qual\u00adity devel\u00adop\u00adment within the health and social care sector. She worked in this field for 20 years in the USA and another 24 years in Ireland.
