The work\u00adshop builds on the previ\u00adous day\u2019s presen\u00adta\u00adtion and focuses on the future: What needs will people with Thalido\u00admide damage have as they age? And how would they like to be supported and assisted? Marie Kehoe\u2011O\u2019Sullivan invites partic\u00adi\u00adpants to share their expe\u00adri\u00adences, wishes, and perspec\u00adtives and to collec\u00adtively reflect on future support and care. <\/p>\n
In Ireland, a concept was devel\u00adoped together with Thalidomide-affected indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adals to facil\u00adi\u00adtate access to medical care and social support services. This resulted in the National Thalido\u00admide Advo\u00adcacy Office, a national advi\u00adsory and advo\u00adcacy body that assists those affected in orga\u00adniz\u00ading and provid\u00ading the indi\u00advid\u00adu\u00adally required support. <\/p>\n
In the work\u00adshop, Marie Kehoe\u2011O\u2019Sullivan presents the work of this insti\u00adtu\u00adtion. She explains which support services are offered and how those affected can access them. The focus is on the co-design<\/em> approach: support services are devel\u00adoped not just for, but together with, those affected. After all, they are the experts on their own bodies, their life situ\u00ada\u00adtions, and their needs. <\/p>\n Using prac\u00adti\u00adcal exam\u00adples, the speaker demon\u00adstrates the impor\u00adtance of regu\u00adlar indi\u00advid\u00adual needs assess\u00adments, simple and trans\u00adpar\u00adent processes, and contin\u00adu\u00adous review of the services offered. It also addresses how success\u00adful, trust-based coop\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion between those affected and profes\u00adsion\u00adals can be achieved. <\/p>\n The work\u00adshop provides insights into the Irish support model and shows how needs-based care can contribute to improv\u00ading qual\u00adity of life.
