Windmills, cheese and historic craftsmanship

Anyone looking to experience classic Dutch motifs will find them at Zaanse Schans: historic buildings, windmills, cheese and traditional crafts offer a glimpse into Dutch life in centuries past.

The open-air museum is about a 30-minute drive from Egmond aan Zee. The paths are mostly flat and well paved, and step-free bridges and accessible toilets are available.

A special recommendation is the windmill “Het Jonge Schaap”. It has been fully converted to be wheelchair-accessible. Wheelchairs can also be reserved at the Zaans Museum.

Good to know: You should allow around three to four hours for a visit. As much of it takes place outdoors, this trip is particularly suitable in dry weather.
